Looking For New Office
Packing like a professional

      • Do it yourself - Pack non-breakable and replaceable items yourself to save money Only have movers pack things that are expensive and need to be packed by a professional. Leave heavy items to the mover as well to avoid injury.
• When using a mover:
a. Pack your own valuables - Never allow movers to pack memorabilia or family heirlooms. If these items get lost or damaged, the insurance money cannot replace the items you value as priceless.
b. Beware of packing - If boxes are not packed correctly, some movers may refuse to move them until they can deem them secure. Movers are required to check every box to be shipped, and there are repacking costs if a box is rejected. Also, movers are not liable for items they didn't pack. Also, movers will not disconnect your major appliances. You should unplug and prep your refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, washer and dryer before the movers arrive.
• Movers will not move the following:
- Living things such as plants or pets
- Hazardous materials, including anything flammable, paint, thinners, solvents, oils, varnishes, firearms and ammunition, bottled gas, propane, lamp oil, motor fuels and oils, nail polish remover, bleach and aerosol cans.
• Heavy item, small box - Try to keep the box weight under 60 kilo, or to the weight you feel comfortable carrying. Avoid back injuries by lifting with your knees instead of your back
. • Get the right boxes - Invest in the proper boxes to move items such as fine china and dress clothes. Padded boxes with dividers can be purchased for dishes and china and wardrobe boxes can be purchased to save you from ironing when unpacking. For other items, head to your local grocery or liquor store and ask for their spare boxes to save money. But remember, these boxes aren't nearly as secure or padded as professional moving boxes, which cost a few bucks a piece.
• Pack carefully - Make sure you have padding to place around breakable items. Items such as bubble wrap, newspaper, and even linens can be used to protect your fragile items. Wrap the items separately and make sure they are snug in a box to avoid breaking while on the road. It is also important to use moving or duct tape to secure the item in.
• Designate a load staging area - Use one room in your house to store all boxes and group them together by room. This helps to cut down on carrying time and will make the move more efficient.
